Model Horse 2015 Review

A post is long overdue and I apologize for that. I have been crazy busy lately with school and holiday stuff so I haven't been able to do anything worthy enough to post. Lately I have seen others posting about their models that they have received in 2015. Since today is Dec 31 I decided to post about my models :)

Overall this year has been great for my growing herd! I have gained a total of 14 horses.

Breyer 2014 Halloween Special "Nightmare"

Springtime Filly Camilla who I renamed "May"

"Black Jack" from the Let's Go Racing Set that I got from the 2015 July Grab Bag

 Polo Pony Santiago renamed "Legolas"

Best of British Irish Draught "Dropkick Murphy"

Micheal Jung's "Sam" (my favorite rider in real life!)

Icelandic Pony Elska renamed "Sassy"

"Taurus" from the zodiac collection

Mongolian Wild horse, Akhal Teke, and Lippizaner Collecta Models. No names yet.

Andalusian, American Draft (I think lol), and Knabstrupper. No names yet.

If you would like a more in-depth post about any of the horses, feel free to request one! I hope that everyone had a happy holiday and will have a great New Years!!
I also renamed my blog if you haven't noticed already!

Why I Buy Breyers Off of Amazon

Hello everyone! Today I am doing more of a "educational" (for a lack of a better word) post on why I prefer to purchase Breyer horses off of Amazon and sometimes Golden Oaks Stables (http://www.goldenoakstables.com).

First off, the main reason is that they are a heck of a lot cheaper even without a Prime membership. I will show you two example of purchases I did. I bought both the Marwari and SBH Phoenix for $61 in total and free shipping! If I were to order off the Breyer website it would've been $101 in total with shipping. Quite a big difference huh? Another example is my most recent purchase of Sam for just $35 and free shipping, not to mention he came impeccably wrapped.

Pricing isn't the only factor in my decision to obtain models in this way. The refund policy plays a great part in this as well. On Breyer's website under Shipping and Returns, in order to return an item it must be, "in their original packaging, and in new and unused condition."  Meaning if you open up new model only to find extreme rubs and other sorts of not so great issues, you cannot return it. This was a huge ordeal for me as I ordered Hickstead in December of 2013 for myself only to have him arrive with scratches all over his belly, and of course, this was not noticeable before I had carefully taken him out of the box. I am actually going to purchase him again because I really do love the mold and it is such a shame to have him not in the best condition (not to mention he is being retired in 2016).

When buying model horses, I highly suggest comparing prices WITH shipping. Far to often I see models going for $36 and then $10 more for shipping. It may look cheaper at first but the $40 model with free shipping is much more of a deal. This of course excludes web exclusives and any horses in the clubs, but on rare occasions you might see one pop up on Amazon. Also, in no way am I bashing Breyer as a whole. I just don't agree with their pricing, especially for the quality of the models I have been purchasing, as well as their policy on returns.

Long time, no see.

Well. It has been a long time since my first post. I guess I wanted to create a blog and update everyday but, alas, that hasn't happened because of school and other crazy things going on in my life. But, I hope now, as I have found some motivation that I will hopefully update this blog regularly with stuff revolving around model horses (such as reviews) and art stuff since I go to an art school.

To start off my first official blog post, I decided I will share with you the model horse halters I created while at home resting and recovering from a concussion. I was able to go to the craft store and pick up some ribbon as well as paper clay. I am by no means a tack maker, but I think that these halters turned out fairly well. I made them on three different models because, well, the models have three different sized heads.

These are actually up for sale on my Etsy store if you would like to purchase one :) https://www.etsy.com/shop/FoxhuntCreations?ref=hdr
